| VIEWS FROM HERE | |||
| In September 2007 we were commissioned to produce a large scale work in Stoke-on-Trent as part of Place Space and Identity. | |||
| Place Space & Identity is a new programme of temporary arts projects providing opportunities for artists and the general public to respond to the social, economic and environmental changes taking place in North Staffordshire now. It is led by Arts Council England, West Midlands, co-funded by Renew North Staffordshire and delivered in partnership with B Arts and Airspace. | |||
| Having visited and travelled through the six towns that comprise Stoke-On-Trent a few times we decided to make a series of video works in response to varying facets of the city at this pivotal time in it’s history. | |||
| The six videos also explore differing means of production and viewing; time-lapse, slow motion, stereoscopic images, multi-screen projections, and will be screened across the city over a period of a week: In essence a temporary city wide video installation. Some of these spaces are particularly specific to the videos shown, others will be re-appropriating spaces within the city and temporarily assigning a new usage - disused factories, shops, empty houses. | |||
| Cinema, as opposed to television, is a fundamentally social media where emotions and ideas are shared concurrently. We hope that people will search out the videos and share in a communal experience, possibly going to parts of the city that they wouldn't necessarily usually visit. We want to expose potentialities and promote discourse about regeneration and the role that artists can play. | |||
